Building Conservation

Specialist conservation and repair, for buildings that matter.

Every project delivered with care, craft and no compromise.

Building conservation is at the heart of everything Greystone & Mason does. With decades of experience working on some of the most important listed and historic buildings in Norfolk and East Anglia

This includes from medieval churches and country houses to private residences and commercial properties – we bring the same level of care, expertise and respect for the fabric to every commission we undertake.

01

Heritage Buildings

Specialist conservation and repair of listed and historic buildings of every type and designation — from Grade II private residences to Scheduled Ancient Monuments and Nationally Listed buildings. We work closely with Historic England, local authority conservation officers and specialist architects to ensure every repair is carried out with the correct materials, the appropriate techniques and the level of care the building deserves.

From emergency stabilisation works to long-term planned maintenance programmes, we are experienced in managing the full range of conservation challenges that historic buildings present.

02

Ecclesiastical

Greystone & Mason has carried out conservation works on a significant number of Norfolk's medieval churches and ecclesiastical buildings — including roof structure repairs, leadwork replacement, stonework consolidation, flint repointing, lime plastering and structural stabilisation.

We understand the faculty application process thoroughly and work regularly alongside DAC architects, church wardens and PCC treasurers to ensure works are properly consented and sympathetically delivered. Our craftsmen treat ecclesiastical buildings with the same reverence and respect as the communities who use them.

03

Country Homes

Long-term conservation and maintenance programmes for country houses and historic rural properties — carried out discreetly, reliably and to a standard that matches the quality and significance of the buildings we work on.

We work directly with private clients and estate managers, providing honest advice, clear specifications and consistent standards across every project. From planned repair programmes to urgent reactive works, we are a contractor our clients can rely on to look after their buildings properly.

04

Private Residences

Conservation and repair of privately owned listed buildings – from Grade II cottages and farmhouses to significant country houses and estate properties.

We manage the full process on behalf of our clients, liaising with local authority conservation officers, preparing schedules of work and ensuring all repairs are carried out within planning and listed building consent conditions. Every project is handled with the sensitivity and care that privately owned historic properties demand.

05

Commercial

Conservation and repair works for commercial listed buildings, including offices, hotels, public houses and mixed-use historic properties.

We are experienced in working within occupied and partially occupied buildings, managing phased programmes of work that minimise disruption whilst maintaining the highest standards of conservation practice throughout.

06

Special & Bespoke

Some of the most rewarding conservation projects are those that do not fit neatly into any category — unusual structures, rare materials, complex histories and challenging briefs that require a contractor willing to think carefully and work with genuine skill.

Greystone & Mason welcomes the most complex and unusual conservation commissions. The more challenging the project, the more we relish the opportunity to get it right.

07

Crafts & Skills

Greystone & Mason maintains a broad range of traditional building crafts in-house – including carpentry and joinery, masonry and flintwork, lime plastering, stonemasonry, leadwork, Victorian tilework, historic metalwork, stained glass and glassworks, painting and decorating, and ground and structural works.

Rather than subcontracting specialist tasks, we carry out the full breadth of conservation works with our own skilled craftsmen, ensuring consistent standards and a single point of accountability on every project. Consultancy & Advice

Greystone & Mason offers consultancy and advice services for clients who need guidance on their historic building before committing to a programme of works. Whether you need a condition survey, a specification for repair, advice on planning or listed building consent, or simply an honest assessment of what your building requires, we are always happy to help.

We work regularly alongside architects and conservation professionals and are experienced in preparing reports and schedules that support planning and faculty applications.
